Non-Surgical Procedures

Root Scaling

Root Scaling, also called Root Scaling and Plaining, is a very effective way to treat gum disease before it gets severe.  This process involves cleaning between your gum line all the way to the root.  When we notice the development of mild pocket depth in the gums, early treatment will usually include scaling and plaining.  This deel cleaning will remove plaque and calculus deposits above and below the gumline, allowing the gum tissue to heal and reattach to the tooth.

Our top priority beyond your oral health is your comfort, so in some cases to make you comfortable we may apply a local anesthetic to numb the area that will be treated.

Periodontal Maintenance

This is a process where you may have already been treated for some level of periodontal disease, and will begin after you have completed an active therapy treatment plan.  This is individual to the patient, but is designed to maximize the longevity of your natural teeth in the event you are facing gum disease.

Oral Cancer Screening in Tucson

That’s why it’s important to have your mouth regularly screened to detect the presence of any abnormalities and enable you to seek treatment when any issues are still in their early stages. The tissue on the inside of your mouth, called mucosa, should be smooth to the touch and a healthy pink in color. As with any other tissue in your body, your mucosa can develop cancerous cells; left untreated, these patches can eventually develop into full-blown cancer.

Early detection is key – and we can help ensure that we catch oral cancer early.
